Construction Project Updates:
The following projects are scheduled to start in the very near future and may impact your travel time. Additional congestion and delays can be expected until projects are completed. Please plan accordingly and check back often for future updates: Please feel free to share with others.
1. The Norton Road Pedestrian Improvements project is a Town-managed project and will improve sidewalks along Norton Road from the intersection of Main Street up to Cherry Street. The contractor plans to start work on the sidewalk closest to the Wise Inn at the signal light and the first phase will end at Snodgrass Street (across from the fire department). Traffic will be channeled into the left turn lane where vehicles will turn left or right at the signal light. The right turn lane will be barricaded; however, access to Geneses and Todd’s Hair Studio will remain open. This area will become more congested and there may be delays at peak traffic times.
2. The Norton Road Widening project is a VDOT-managed project and will widen Norton Road from Hamilton Street (near the State Police Building) up to Cherry Street. The contractor for this project has indicated he will also start construction in March and will begin by cutting trees and working on the retention ponds on Hamilton Street below the State Police building. This initial phase may not impact traffic significantly; however, as this project unfolds, traffic will be heavily impacted and alternates will not only be suggested, but required. As information is passed along to the Town, it will be posted here.
